Black News Channel, a cable news network that went on the air two years ago to provide an alternative look at news from Black Americans’ perspective, is shutting down, the outlet’s chief executive told employees on Friday. 

“Due to challenging market conditions and global financial pressures, we have been unable to meet our financial goals, and the timeline afforded to us has run out,” Princell Hair, who has been chief executive since July 2020, wrote in a memo to staff. “Effective immediately, BNC will cease live production and file for bankruptcy.”


Black News Channel’s abrupt closure comes just a year after the network revamped its lineup with high-profile commentators like Charles Blow and Marc Lamont Hill, and added a new morning show. It also shows the difficulties traditional cable-TV channels face as cord-cutting continues and consumers turn away from the channel dial. 

The network, which was co-founded by former Oklahoma congressman J.C. Watts, is largely backed by automotive-parts billionaire and Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan. Mr. Khan had explored a sale of some or all of the network in recent months, people familiar with the matter said. Mr. Khan, who has invested roughly $50 million in BNC, won’t invest any further, according to some of the people. A spokesman for Mr. Khan had no comment.

By 5 p.m. ET on Friday, the network will start running old programming, which will last through the rest of this month, according to one of the people familiar with the matter.

BNC’s more than 200 employees didn’t receive their paychecks this week, the people said. They won’t receive severance pay or benefits beyond the end of the month, the people said.
“Arrangements have been made for the company to pay all earned but unpaid wages to laid-off employees,” the board of BNC said in a statement Friday evening. 

Under Mr. Hair’s leadership, BNC landed distribution deals with most pay-TV providers, including Comcast Corp.’s Xfinity, Dish Network Corp. and DirecTV. The network said it reached roughly 50 million households. 

BNC didn’t receive fees from distributors for carrying its channel, according to one of the people familiar with the matter. Instead, the network relied on advertising revenue and funding from its backer—a practice that is commonplace for most upstart cable channels. 

The network’s viewership hit a peak of 80,000 this week, according to Nielsen data, as it aired wall-to-wall coverage of confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman nominated to the Supreme Court. 

Mr. Hair, a TV veteran whose resume includes CBS, CNN, Turner Broadcasting and NBC Sports, had looked to shake up the cable-TV news landscape, which has seen audiences divided among major networks like CNN, Fox News and MSNBC. Fox News parent Fox Corp. and Wall Street Journal parent News Corp share common ownership.

The Democratic party decided long ago to do the race-hustle for election 2016.. The false race narrative was always a key to Democrat election victory. they decided to stack the deck in election 2016 with almost all race cards.

The deep pockets behind Black Lives matter along the open support of big labor really helped with the ground game.  I should also mention some of the rest of the Occupy coalition such as illegal immigration supporters and the LGBT community. Academia helped with manufacturing the scripts and the 'studies' and these factoids were eagerly parrotted by their allies in the media.  Besides the street charades of BLM, the media insist the protests aren't violent and academia generates the next talking points.

The Democratic party and the progressive movement are eager to divide the country in terms of race, religion, income, religion and by gender. Divide and conquer. The new left's lust for power has many Orwellian features as seen in their word play known as political correctness in liberal circles and newspeak to historians.

 Progressive and neo-Marxist professors steeped in the anti-American writings of Howard Zinn  or various femi-Nazi authors for instance, indoctrinate  a generation of useless idiots to parrot their narratives.  Activist front groups are the only place of possible employment, outside of academia, for these victim-studies majors. Activist groups that are happy to utilize the youthful exuberance of the useful idiots and malcontents to divide, dis-inform and ultimately devour American society. Catchy slogans like forward, hope and change will be chanted so an intellectually lazy society won't hear the sounds of the swarming, progressive locusts.

Progressives play on emotions and the push to blame 'white privilege' or institutional racism is all the rage, when in fact, real examples of institutional racism codified into law are affirmative action in employment, and ironically, academia. The progressives actually are the racists.  and will continually use it as a wedge issue for decades to come.   For the latest example of how ludicrous the argument has become about race one only has to look at the darling of academia and the NAACP, Rachel Dolezal.

Rachel Dolezal on being black: 'I didn't deceive anybody'

(CNN)Weeks after making headlines amid accusations that she is a white woman passing herself off as African-American, Rachel Dolezal says she is no longer confused about who she is. 

She is a black woman, she told Vanity Fair. 

"It's not something that I can put on and take off anymore," Dolezal said. "Like I said, I've had my years of confusion and wondering who I really (was) and why and how do I live my life and make sense of it all, but I'm not confused about that any longer. I think the world might be -- but I'm not." 

olezal stepped down as head of the Spokane, Washington, chapter of the NAACP in June over criticism that she's portrayed herself as black, even though her parents told a local newspaper that the 37-year-old was born white. She said then that she identified as black, and Dolezal maintains that she wasn't being deceptive.

"I just feel like I didn't mislead anybody; I didn't deceive anybody," Dolezal now says. "If people feel misled or deceived, then sorry that they feel that way, but I believe that's more due to their definition and construct of race in their own minds than it is to my integrity or honesty, because I wouldn't say I'm African-American, but I would say I'm black, and there's a difference in those terms."

The woman who touched off conversations about what constitutes race now says that the whole thing was a misunderstanding and that she is trying to work out how to proceed, having lost her job and friends over the scandal.
