The Man Who Broke the Middle East

The following article appeared in Politico on June 22,2014. While Barack Obama will never be held accountable for any malfeasance, malpractice or major miscalculations by the biased media, the sixth year into the Obama administration means Blaming Bush no longer works.  After 6 Years, the President cannot hide from HIS record and the current results of HIS actions and reactions /

The Man Who Broke the Middle East

There’s always Tunisia. Amid the smoking ruins of the Middle East, there is that one encouraging success story. But unfortunately for the Obama narratives, the president had about as much as to do with Tunisia’s turn toward democracy as he did with the World Cup rankings. Where administration policy has had an impact, the story is one of failure and danger.
The picture has been modified for editorial purposes  .....
The Middle East that Obama inherited in 2009 was largely at peace, for the surge in Iraq had beaten down the al Qaeda-linked groups. U.S. relations with traditional allies in the Gulf, Jordan, Israel and Egypt were very good. Iran was contained, its Revolutionary Guard forces at home. Today, terrorism has metastasized in Syria and Iraq, Jordan is at risk, the humanitarian toll is staggering, terrorist groups are growing fast and relations with U.S. allies are strained.

How did it happen? Begin with hubris: The new president told the world, in his Cairo speech in June 2009, that he had special expertise in understanding the entire world of Islam—knowledge “rooted in my own experience” because “I have known Islam on three continents before coming to the region where it was first revealed.” But President Obama wasn’t speaking that day in an imaginary location called “the world of Islam;” he was in Cairo, in the Arab Middle East, in a place where nothing counted more than power. “As a boy,” Obama told his listeners, “I spent several years in Indonesia and heard the call of the azaan at the break of dawn and the fall of dusk.” Nice touch, but Arab rulers were more interested in knowing whether as a man he heard the approaching sound of gunfire, saw the growing threat of al Qaeda from the Maghreb to the Arabian Peninsula, and understood the ambitions of the ayatollahs as Iran moved closer and closer to a bomb.
Obama began with the view that there was no issue in the Middle East more central than the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Five years later he has lost the confidence of both Israeli and Palestinian leaders, and watched his second secretary of state squander endless efforts in a doomed quest for a comprehensive peace. Obama embittered relations with America’s closest ally in the region and achieved nothing whatsoever in the “peace process.” The end result in the summer of 2014 is to see the Palestinian Authority turn to a deal with Hamas for new elections that—if they are held, which admittedly is unlikely—would usher the terrorist group into a power-sharing deal. This is not progress.
The most populous Arab country is Egypt, where Obama stuck too long with Hosni Mubarak as the Arab Spring arrived, and then with the Army, and then the Muslim Brotherhood President Mohammed Morsi, and now is embracing the Army again. Minor failings like the persecution of newspaper editors and leaders of American-backed NGOs, or the jailing of anyone critical of the powers-that-be at a given moment, were glossed over. When the Army removed an elected president, that was not really a “coup”—remember? And as the worm turned, we managed to offend every actor on Egypt’s political stage, from the military to the Islamists to the secular democratic activists. Who trusts us now on the Egyptian political scene?
No one.
But these errors are minor when compared to those in Iraq and Syria. When the peaceful uprising against President Bashar al-Assad was brutally crushed, Obama said Assad must go; when Assad used sarin gas, Obama said this was intolerable and crossed a red line. But behind these words there was no American power, and speeches are cheap in the Middle East. Despite the urgings of all his top advisers (using the term loosely; he seems to ignore their advice)—Panetta at CIA and then Defense, Clinton at State, Petraeus at CIA, even Dempsey at the Pentagon—the president refused to give meaningful assistance to the Syrian nationalist rebels. Assistance was announced in June 2013 and then again in June 2014 (in the president’s West Point speech) but it is a minimal effort, far too small to match the presence of Hezbollah and Iranian Quds Force fighters in Syria. Arabs see this as a proxy war with Iran, but in the White House the key desire is to put all those nasty Middle Eastern wars behind us. So in the Middle East American power became a mirage, something no one could find—something enemies did not fear and allies could not count on.
The humanitarian result has been tragic: At least 160,000 killed in Syria, perhaps eight million displaced. More than a million Syrian refugees in Lebanon (a country of four million people, before Obama added those Syrians), about a million and a quarter Syrian refugees in Jordan (population six million before Obama). Poison gas back on the world scene as a tolerated weapon, with Assad using chlorine gas systematically in “barrel bombs” this year and paying no price whatsoever for this and for his repeated attacks on civilian targets. Both of the key officials handling Syria for Obama—State Department special envoy Fred Hof and Ambassador Robert Ford—resigned in disgust when they could no longer defend Obama’s hands-off policy. Can Samantha Power be far behind, watching the mass killings and seeing her president respond to them with rhetoric?
The result in security terms is even worse: the largest gathering of jihadis we have ever seen, 12,000 now and expanding. They come from all over the world, a jihadi Arab League, a jihadi EU, a jihadi U.N. Two or three thousand are from Europe, and an estimated 70 from the United States. When they go home, some no doubt disillusioned but many committed, experienced and well trained, “home” will be Milwaukee and Manchester and Marseille—and, as we see now on the front pages, to Mosul. When Obama took office there was no such phenomenon; it is his creation, the result of his passivity in Syria while Sunnis were being slaughtered by the Assad regime.

Ladies Night? Obama Pivots and Panders for the Midterms

Barack Obama's foreign policy embarrassments hardly compare to the disasters on the domestic front. A floundering economy and the failed roll-out of his only 'achievement' Obamacare keeps the President stuck in campaign mode. A sure sign of a failed leader. What demographic will the panderer in chief target this week?

Obama turns to women's economic issues

President Obama will kick off a new springtime effort on women’s economic issues with a trip to Orlando on Wednesday, where he’ll discuss efforts to expand female higher education access.
The trip is the first in a series of events focusing on ways the president and federal government can help shrink the pay disparity between men and women and improve female employment numbers.
Expand access to higher education for females?

Boys vs. girls: What's behind the college grad gender gap?
FORTUNE -- The facts are plain, if puzzling: Not only do women enter college at higher rates than men, but they're less likely to drop out once they get there. Female grads now account for about 60% of U.S. bachelor's degree holders.

What about Obama's and the 'pay disparity' talking point?

How does Obama stack up on women’s pay himself?

But a McClatchy review of White House salaries shows that when the same calculations that produced the 77 cents is applied to the White House, the average female pay at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is less than the average male pay. When counted the same way that produced the 77-cent figure, the analysis found, women overall at the White House make 91 cents for every dollar men make. That’s an average salary of $84,082 for men and $76,516 for women

Asked about its own payroll, the White House said Wednesday that it should be measured by how it pays men and women in the same jobs, but not the kind of broad brush that compares overall male and female pay.

Eager to campaign with mythical math, the same metric shouldn't apply to the Obama White House.

"Women (are) paid 77 cents on the dollar for doing the same work as men."

 Our ruling
The Obama campaign took a legitimate statistic and described it in a way that makes it sound much more dramatic than it actually is. The 77-cent figure is real, but it does not factor in occupations held, hours worked or length of tenure. Describing that statistic as referring to the pay for women "doing the same work as men" earns it a rating of Mostly False.

Speaking of measurements and talking points, why not try a distraction from the Obamacare debacle with Obama's WAR ON MEN?

Priebus slammed by actuaries

An organization representing the country’s actuaries is hitting back at Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus for claiming they conspired to “screw young people over” while designing ObamaCare.
Obamacare sure does “screw young people over' by design, particularly males. Is that equality?
Women Should Pay More for Health Care
Women's costs are higher, and they live longer, yet Obamacare will charge men the same for health-insurance premiums
People are uncomfortable in acknowledging sex differences in health care costs, but they should recognize that those same differences crop up in other markets too.  It’s not discussed as frequently, but sometimes men are the ones paying more for certain purchases, like car insurance. Would it be fair to charge women more for it just to give men a discount?

Barack Obama is the most divisive president in history. The abuse of executive power combined with the perpetual campaigning and propagandizing by this administration to maintain power and build a 'legacy' is sickening. The left has built a coalition of minoritarian miscreants that is led by a serial liar.  'Liberalism' is nothing more than pandering to the gullible and their gonads and to hyphenated-Americans, who by their very nature, never have put America first.

Democrat Leadership has ZERO Credibility-Budgets and the Debt Ceiling

No-Budget Barack Obama and Harry Reid lack any credibility when it comes to this nation's budget process and the debt ceiling. While the main stream press will spoon-feed the dependent-hyphenated-American Obama supporter a legacy-sustaining myth, videos and quotes and facts will have to do for the rest of us. Here are the two top Democrat Leaders, (pic)  Barack Obama and Harry Reid share their thoughts on spending and the debt ceiling below. Text and Video follow:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Harry Reid on raising the debt ceiling in 2006:
“If my Republican friends believe that increasing our debt by almost $800 billion today and more than $3 trillion over the last five years is the right thing to do, they should be upfront about it. They should explain why they think more debt is good for the economy.
How can the Republican majority in this Congress explain to their constituents that trillions of dollars in new debt is good for our economy? How can they explain that they think it’s fair to force our children, our grandchildren, our great grandchildren to finance this debt through higher taxes. That’s what it will have to be. Why is it right to increase our nation’s dependence on foreign creditors?
They should explain this. Maybe they can convince the public they’re right. I doubt it. Because most Americans know that increasing debt is the last thing we should be doing. After all, I repeat, the Baby Boomers are about to retire. Under the circumstances, any credible economist would tell you we should be reducing debt, not increasing it.Democrats won’t be making argument to supper this legalization, which will weaken our country. Weaken our county.”
 How can we forget this?

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here.” Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

Of Course, not to be outdone by this

Obama in 2008: Adding $4 Trillion to National Debt ‘Unpatriotic

(CNSNews.com) – Although the national debt under President Barack Obama has increased $4 trillion since he took office in 2009, as a presidential candidate in 2008 Obama criticized then-President George W. Bush for adding $4 trillion to the national debt, saying it was “unpatriotic” and also “irresponsible” to saddle future generations with such a large national debt.
“The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion dollars for the first 42 presidents -- number 43 added $4 trillion dollars by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion dollars of debt that we are going to have to pay back -- $30,000 for every man, woman and child,” Obama said on July 3, 2008, at a campaign event in Fargo, N.D.

TARP Overseer Neil Barofsky on Bailouts & Obama

Neil Barofsky, the former Special Inspector General for TARP and author of "Bailout: An Inside Account of How Washington Abandoned Main Street While Rescuing Wall Street" provides an in-depth account of his experience behind the scenes, as he tried to
negotiate what he initially believed was a program designed to save main street but that he later discovered was really created with the full intention of bailing out Wallstreet.

Barack Obama on TARP

President Obama has remained a strong supporter of the TARP program throughout his time in the Senate and in the White House. His actions as President have drastically changed the program, taking it from its original form as a mechanism to purchase specific kinds of stocks and warrants and using the program funds to spur lending among small businesses, create programs to assist homeowners in refinancing their homes, rescue GM, and create programs to directly provide funds to states hardest hit by the housing crisis.

What is TARP

The Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) was created in October of 2008 to address the fiscal crisis by purchasing warrants and stocks from financial institutions so that those items no longer burdened the banks. The legislation outlines what items can be purchased, and defines the institutions from what institutions those items can be purchased. President Bush violated those rules prior to leaving office when he loaned money to General Motors and Chrysler. President Obama further violated those rules when he purchased stock in GM and then used the influence from those purchases to direct changes at GM.

Record as Senator
In addition to voting for the TARP program, Senator Obama spoke on the Senate floor in support of the program. In that speech, he urged his fellow Senators to "step up to the plate" and do the right thing in passing the legislation. He noted that a similar program had failed in the House and triggered a fall in the stock market. In supporting the program, he also urged it to have a program for home owners and an oversight board for the funds.

Second Half of TARP

After Senator Obama won the 2008 Presidential election, he asked President Bush to request the second half of the TARP funds to be allocated to TARP. In making the request, he stated that the economy was still too frail and that it would be irresponsible to enter office without having all the tools he needed to address the problem.

Request for Second Half of TARP

On January 12, 2009 President Bush stated that if President Obama desired the second installment of TARP funds, then he would move forward with the request. President-elect Obama immediately asked President Bush to request the funds.
"(it would be) irresponsible ... to enter into the administration without any potential ammunition should there be some sort of emergency or weakening of the financial system.
It is clear that the financial system, although improved from where it was in September, is still frail."  Barack Obama on TARP
 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TARP Subprograms

The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (otherwise known as "the bailout") created the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). Some of the 9 subprograms initiated under TARP were in place prior to President Obama assuming office. Other programs were initiated during his administration. The programs initiated by President Bush include:
  • American International Group
  • Automotive Industry Financing Program (AIFP)
  • Capital Purchase Program
  • Targeted Investment Program
  • Asset Guarantee Program
President Obama has initiated numerous programs using the TARP funds. These purposes of these programs range from helping people refinance their homes to spurring lending for small businesses to welfare funds as shown below:
  • Small Business and Community Lending Initiative
  • Home Affordable Modification Program
  • Consumer and Business Lending Initiative
  • Community Development Capital Initiative
  • Public-Private Investment Program
  • Hardest Hit Funds Program
  • FHA Short Refinance Program

 TARP and GM

The use of TARP funds to bail out General Motors is addressed in a separate item. The purchase of stock and warrants from GM was not valid through TARP as the GM and Chrysler are not financial institutions as defined by the TARP legislation. The use of that stock holding as leverage to force the CEO of GM out and to allow the US government to appoint chairs to the board at GM is counter to guidelines of TARP which expressly forbid purchasing stock with voting rights so that the government could not assert influence over companies it had purchased shares of through the program.

Funds Committed to TARP

The TARP program initially consisted of programs to deal with toxic assets. Those programs were extended by President Bush when he initiated loans to President Obama. President Obama further extended those programs to purchase stock in auto companies and then invest in local communities. Over 87% of the money issued by President Bush has been returned while roughly 9% of the money issued by President Obama has been returned. This data is current as of mid-March 2011 and taken from the TARP disclosure statements  Barack Obama on TARP

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A little perspective on the history and original purpose of TARP and President Obama's use and misuse of TARP 2 for GM, as an example. The Democrats caused the economic crisis funding the social-justice and class-warfare MEMES for power, called progress. We cannot afford four more years.
