Lawyer: Vet Reaches $4.5M Settlement With Oakland

An Iraq War veteran whose skull was fractured during an Occupy Oakland protest when he was hit by a beanbag round fired by police has reached a $4.5 million agreement to settle a federal lawsuit with the city of Oakland, his lawyers and city officials announced Friday. 

Scott Olsen, 26, sued the city in 2012 for medical expenses and injuries that also included a fractured vertebrae and hemorrhaging of the brain. Olsen was among more than 1,000 demonstrators protesting the police clearing of an Occupy Oakland encampment when struck by a beanbag fired by an officer outside City Hall on Oct. 25, 2011.

Olsen, who served two tours of duty as a U.S. Marine in Iraq, suffered permanent brain injuries and has not been able to return to his career as a computer systems administrator, his attorney Rachel Lederman said Friday. Olsen's lawyers said police investigators concluded he was struck by the round that was fired by an officer less than 30 feet away during the 2011 clash.

"We're pleased that Scott is finally going to be getting some compensation for this really devastating injury," Lederman said. "He sustained some pretty serious brain damage resulting from being shot at a very close range."

Olsen said Friday outside of City Hall that he was relieved this chapter of his life is coming to a resolution.

Oakland PD gets Occupied by the Feds

 A few months ago, the Oakland Police Department had a Federal Monitor ordered in with the threat of a Federal Takeover of the local police department for "reforms".  The Associated Press article starts with the following:

"Progress on reforms has stalled at the Oakland Police Department, according to a federal monitor who also said the agency failed to properly prepare for last year's Occupy protests.
The quarterly report released Monday criticized the department's reaction to the protests as an "overwhelming military-type response."
Former U.S. Marine Scott Olsen was critically injured Oct. 25 when he was hit in the head with a beanbag round fired by an Oakland SWAT team member, the report noted.
"We have viewed many official and unofficial video clips of the Occupy Oakland-related incidents," the report said. "These recordings lead us to ask additional questions as the level of force that was used by OPD officers, and whether that use of force was in compliance with the department's use of force policies."  "The findings could bring the department one step closer to a federal court takeover."

"I showed the video to former NASA photo analyst Michael Rivero, to see if he thought the low trajectory of the tear gas canister fired at Olsen shows that the attack was intentional.   Rivero is an imaging expert with experience with NASA probes, and so is expert at assessing height, angle and object size from photos taken from various distances and at different angles.
Rivero told me:

I agree the low angle indicates the shot was aimed at Scott.
This is a favorite trick of the Israelis to kill people while pretending it was an accident.

Rolling Stone Runs Propaganda Piece for Occupy Wall Street

The silence of the media is deafening. Scott Olsen was NOT SHOT BY POLICE during  the Occupy Oakland protest on Oct 25,  2011. The MSM are complicit in the push to canonize the Veteran Peace Martyr and embellish some back story to further stoke the fires. Why would you stop the General Strike with the TRUTH?   The facts indicate "anarchists" blew up a Vet and blamed the Police, the media eagerly propagating the lie of a POLICE SHOOTING .  The Media and Occupiers got CAUGHT SPREADING PROPAGANDA and it is NOT A STORY or even a  CORRECTION. That should tell you something about the backing of this movement. The Media, Occupiers and the Mayor are all responsible for the charade, but they won't be held accountable. That is PROGRESSIVE.
