DC transit police officer charged with aiding ISIS

Washington (CNN)In the first case of a US police officer charged with aiding ISIS, a Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority cop was arrested Wednesday for providing material support to ISIS, the Justice Department announced. 

Nicholas Young was arrested by the FBI on Wednesday but was on law enforcement's radar since 2010, according to an affidavit released with Young's arrest. 

There was no evidence of any threat to the DC Metro system. Young will make his first appearance in court later Wednesday, according to two law enforcement officials. 

He would be the first police officer in the United States arrested and charged with supporting ISIS. 

Young has been in contact with undercover law enforcement officers and informants since 2011 and was interviewed as early as 2010 about his relationship with a friend, Zachary Chesser, who pleaded guilty to supporting a foreign terrorist organization, according to court documents.
In addition, Young allegedly met several times with Amine El Khalifi before el Khalifi was arrested in 2012 for plotting to carry out a suicide bombing at the US Capitol building. 

In 2014, Young also began meeting with an informant who convinced Young he was traveling overseas to join ISIS in Syria, according to the FBI. Once Young believed that had happened, the FBI began communicating directly with Young electronically, posing as the informant. 

The core charge of material support came from Young allegedly buying gift cards to support ISIS through mobile messaging accounts. He sent the gift card codes to the person he believed to be in Syria in late July. 

Young also traveled to Libya in 2011 and tried to go a second time, telling law enforcement he was working with rebels to overthrow Moammar Gaddafi, according to the court documents. Numerous times he allegedly expressed desires to stockpile weapons, attack law enforcement and warned others about being watched. 

Young was a Metro police officer since 2003 but was fired Wednesday morning after his arrest, according to Metro Transit Police.

A co-worker of the suspect in the Orlando, Fla., nightclub shooting described Omar Mateen as homophobic, "unhinged and unstable," according to Florida Today, a daily newspaper in Melbourne, Fla.

Daniel Gilroy worked with Mateen at G4S Security for several months in 2014 and 2015, and said Mateen frequently made homophobic and racial comments.

He also said Mateen began sending him multiple texts a day, leading Gilroy to quit his job.
"I quit because everything he said was toxic," Gilroy said. "And the company wouldn't do anything. This guy was unhinged and unstable. He talked of killing people." 

Fifty people were killed and 53 more wounded inside the crowded gay nightclub. Mateen, a U.S. citizen from Florida, is suspected in the shooting. He was killed at the scene.  

Orlando Police Chief John Mina told reporters the suspect had an assault-style rifle and a handgun. The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) claimed responsibility Sunday for the shooting, but offered no proof for the attacks. 

The FBI confirmed on Sunday it had interviewed the suspect in the Orlando, Fla., nightclub attack three times before the shooting took place early Sunday morning.  

An official said the FBI first became aware of the suspect, Omar Mateen, 29, in 2013 when he made "inflammatory comments to coworkers alleging possible terrorist ties."  

In the course of that investigation, Mateen was interviewed twice, but the FBI was unable to verify the substance of his comments.

Obama to get ISIS War 'Update' at Pentagon

Barack Obama's foreign policy has been described as willful ignorance at best and the battle against the terrorists called ISIS is just one example. An excerpt from The Hill proves that this president is just going through the political motions as commander in chief to present optics to the public as he winds down his second term in office and the media is all too eager to provide cover for the failure in chief.

Obama to get ISIS war 'update' at Pentagon

President Obama is making a rare trip to the Pentagon on Monday, to meet with his top national security advisers to discuss the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

But don't expect any serious reevaluation of the current strategy against ISIS, the White House said Friday.

"At this point ... it is an update," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters.

However, the last time the president went to get such an update at the Pentagon in July, it led to adecision to send about 50 U.S. special operations forces into Syria, among other steps to intensify the campaign.

During that meeting, the president "reaffirmed to all of us in the room that he was willing to hear all options of doing more in Iraq and Syria, as long as they would produce strategic success vice just tactical success," a senior defense official told Pentagon reporters during a background briefing on Oct. 30, after the White House announced the new steps.

"We went about taking a very hard look at what was working, what wasn't working, in both Iraq and Syria, and what we thought might help us enhance our campaign," she said.

Other steps included striking different kinds of oil infrastructure used by ISIS to finance its operations, and delivering ammunition to Syrian opposition rebels. The Pentagon announced about a month later that about 200 more special operations forces would deploy to the region to conduct raids in Iraq and Syria.

While the steps were welcomed by critics of the president's strategy, it did not quell calls for him to do more to wipe out the terrorist group.

And the president has been under increasing pressure to do more, especially after terrorist attacks across Paris on Nov. 13 that killed 130, and a mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., earlier this month that killed 14.

The White House acknowledged those calls, but said that "those who are most frequent in voicing those calls, do not themselves have alternative solutions that they have put on the table."
Earnest specifically pointed to a tweet by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a 2016 Republican presidential candidate, which said, "If I'm elected president, we won’t weaken ISIS. We won’t degrade ISIS. We will utterly destroy ISIS."

"Just to cite one example, I know that after the president delivered his address to the nation from the oval office, that — that Senator Cruz, in the thoughtful medium known as Twitter, suggested that if he were president of the United States, he would order the Department of Defense to destroy ISIL," Earnest said, using another acronym for ISIS.  

"This, of course, is the mandate that the president has given for our entire national security team, and all of our allies and partners in the coalition since September of 2014," Earnest said.

Another news article that reads more like propaganda from the demagogue in chief. who spends his time targeting members of the GOP instead of ISIS.  The last sentence in the excerpt proves how dishonest the Obama administration is at every level.  The White House has admitted they can destroy ISIS but they REFUSE to do it. This administration has publicly shifted the strategy from degrading and destroying ISS to one of containment.

The battle with ISIS was always complicated by the fact that this administration helped arm and supply them in their covert war with Assad in Syria and the fact that this administrations reelection narrative hinged on the fact that Al Qaeda and their affiliates were on on run.

As Obama goes to the Pentagon to be briefed with cooked intel to reinforce more of his false narratives and delusional foreign policy. Americans should wonder if Obama was projecting when he called ISIS the jayvee team.

U.S. report warns of ISIS' ability to create fake passports

Washington (CNN)  A new intelligence report shared with law enforcement warns of ISIS' ability to create passports utilizing seized Syrian government assets, according to a law enforcement official with direct knowledge of the intelligence report's contents. 

The report warned that, based on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's intelligence sources, ISIS has access to passport printing machines and blank passport books, raising the possibility the documents could be faked, according to the source.

The source noted that, beyond the report, there's concern that this capability coupled with ISIS access to government buildings in Syria that contain valid biographical data and fingerprint info on Syrian citizens give rise to the threat of identity theft. 

State Department spokesman John Kirby said government officials are "mindful" that terrorists could be making false passports. 

"We have been aware of reports, not just in the press, that they may have obtained this capability," he said. "Obviously, it's something that we take seriously. It's obviously something, clearly that we're mindful of."

Former intel chief says WH worried over re-elect 'narrative'

Washington (CNN)President Barack Obama's former top military intelligence official said Tuesday that the White House ignored reports prefacing the rise of ISIS in 2011 and 2012 because they did not fit its re-election "narrative." 

"I think that they did not meet a narrative the White House needed. And I'll be very candid with you, they just didn't," retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, the former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, told CNN's Jake Tapper on "The Lead." 

Flynn, who has been critical of both Obama's and former President George W. Bush's handling of the Iraq War and involvement in the Middle East, said that Obama was served poorly by a small circle of advisers who were worried about his re-election prospects at the time. 

The story they needed to tell, he said, was that pulling troops from Iraq would not leave the region vulnerable to the rise of a radical Islamic group like ISIS. 

"I think the narrative was that al Qaeda was on the run, and (Osama) bin Laden was dead. ... They're dead and these guys are, we've beaten them," Flynn said -- but the problem was that no matter how many terrorist leaders they killed, they "continue to just multiply."

Obama has been criticized by opponents for referring to ISIS as the "JV squad" and apparently underestimating the group's threat. The Pentagon's inspector general is investigating complaints that top intelligence officials manipulated reports to make the threat of ISIS look minimal.

Barack Obama and his administration's secret war against Assad in Syria will always be framed in a different light.  The coup in Libya under the guise of the 'responsibility to protect doctrine' or R2P and the resulting chaos in Libya has been a disaster for the entire middle east.  The attack on the Special Mission in Benghazi and the transfer of weapons from Libya to Syria, via Turkey, exposed Obama's secret and unconstitutional war long ago. Just as Turkey is using the war on ISIS as an opportunity to attack the Kurds, Obama is now using the war on ISIS to target Assad. 

 This RAT LINE of military arms from Libya directly and indirectly aided ISIS in Syria, a group that Obama has done little to confront and who the POTUS called the 'jayvee team'.  ISIS, a group that this administration uses to fight Assad.  Obama's ISIS army only became a problem for him when they streamed into Iraq when the POTUS withdrew our troops, thus surrendering the territory to ISIS and Iran.

The Obama administration's power under the AUMF to conduct war in Syria have been questionable from the beginning and the actions under Article 2  now are politely described as ' blurry' as the following story excerpted from TheHILL describes. 

White House Legal Strategy for ISIS Fight Gets Blurry

President Obama has shifted his legal rationale for justifying military force to defend Syrian rebel forces battling the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria as the prospect has increased that they could come into conflict with Syria’s government.

The administration had been using a 2001 authorization approved by Congress after the Sept. 11 attacks to justify air strikes against ISIS.

But the administration now says it will also rely on Article II of the Constitution as the legal backing for air strikes against Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad’s forces if Assad attacks the rebel groups.

“If Syrian government forces attack the Syrian fighters we have trained and equipped while they were engaging ISIL, the President would have the authority under Article II of the Constitution to defend those fighters,” a senior administration official told The Hill, using another acronym to describe ISIS.

The legal shift comes as the Syrian rebels are beginning to deploy back into Syria from their training sites.

This is raising the prospect that they will come into conflict with Assad’s forces, prompting the need for a U.S. response.

And the U.S. is not only protecting the rebels they've vetted and trained, but the entire groups that they were recruited from and return to — many of which the U.S. has not vetted.

In fact, a U.S. official said, the U.S.-led coalition already is providing those groups with air support against ISIS – even though they do not yet have U.S.-trained rebels embedded with them.

The diplomatic official said some of the groups may target Assad — which would bring the U.S. closer to war with the regime.

Already, things have not gone as planned. Although the rebels were trained to fight ISIS, the first rebels to return almost immediately came under attack by al Nusra — an al Qaeda affiliated group, prompting coalition airstrikes. 

The administration maintains the U.S. can defend the rebels from al Nusra — al Qaeda's affiliate in Syria — using the 2001 AUMF.

So far, there has been no conflict with Syrian forces.
Both the expansion of the fight, and the shifting rational for its legality has drawn criticism from Congress.

Legal scholars said using Article II to justify defensive actions as protecting the rebel groups from Assad is a stretch.
“That means nothing. That’s pretty bad when you have to cite Article II…You have to be more specific than that,” said Louis Fisher, scholar in residence at the Constitution Project and former Congressional Research Service researcher.

He and other legal experts say Article II has been interpreted to allow a president to “repel sudden attack” against U.S. troops, the U.S.mainland, and its interests.

Using it to defend Syrian rebels would not fit under that previous interpretation, he said.
“Invoking Article II is question-begging,” agreed Stephen Vladeck, law professor at American University.

Vladeck said Article II has also been interpreted to allow the U.S. to defend its “assets.”
However, he said “by that logic any person or piece of military equipment used by anyone on a side of a conflict with which we agree is all of a sudden covered by Article II. And that cannot be right.” 

As recently as last month, Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford, the incoming chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that the U.S. did not have the authority to conduct airstrikes against the Syrian regime. 

“My understanding is that we don't have the legal authority at this time to go after the Assad regime. And it's also the policy of the administration not to go after the Assad regime militarily,” he said at a hearing on July 7. 

The administration now is saying it will conduct “offensive” strikes against ISIS that would be justified by the 2001 AUMF, use the same AUMF to justify “defensive” strikes against al Nusra, and use Article II to justify “defensive” strikes to defend the rebels against the regime.
Some lawmakers are becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the blurred lines, one year after the airstrikes against ISIS first began.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner Barack Obama and his administration has wanted to directly attack Assad for years and only when they sought political cover by involving Congress at the last minute was this averted. The reasons for opposing Obama's 'intervention' in Syria were numerous and the public opposed his actions as well. 

The Obama administration has never been honest about Syria. In fact, they have always lied about Syria at every opportunity. The claims that the Assad regime solely using chemical weapons against the Syrian people and was a cause for war or Obama and his administration claiming they destroyed Assad's chemical weapons arsenal and enforced the chemical weapons treaty are lies. Further 'blurring' the lines of Constitutional power really isn't a problem for this corrupt and dishonest administration.

Son of Boston Police Captain Arrested Over Alleged ISIS-Inspired Terror Plot

Son of Boston Police Captain Arrested as Possible Terrorist

The estranged son of a respected Boston police captain was arrested July 4 by FBI agents as part of a counter-terrorism operation against alleged ISIS-inspired domestic terrorists, federal officials told ABC News today. 

Alexander Ciccolo, 23, of Adams, Mass., was taken into custody on gun charges after buying two pistols and two rifles from an undercover FBI confidential informant, federal officials said. In a search of his apartment, officials reported they found it loaded with possible bomb-making equipment including a pressure cooker, a variety of chemicals, an alarm clock, along with “attack planning papers” and “jihad” paperwork. FBI agents said he used the name Abu Ali al-Amriki and neighbors said he was a recent convert to Islam.

“This is a very bad person arrested before he could do very bad things,” one senior federal official briefed on the arrest told ABC News. 

According to the FBI, Ciccolo attempted to stab a nurse in the head with a pen during a routine screening, “leaving a hole in the nurse’s skin.” 

An FBI affidavit said Ciccolo initially planned to travel to “another state” and used a pressure cooker bomb “to conduct terrorist attacks on civilians, members of the U.S. military and law enforcement personnel.” The FBI said the attack location was later changed to a town with a state university and would be concentrated on “college dorms and cafeteria, to include executions of students, which would be broadcast live via the internet.”

Ciccolo’s father is Boston police Captain Robert Ciccolo, a veteran commander assigned to Operations at Boston Police headquarters who was one of the first responders to the deadlyBoston Marathon bombing in April 2013. According to the FBI, the younger Ciccolo said he was “inspired” by the Marathon bombing and the use of pressure cooker bombs, and told the FBI undercover operative, “Allahu Akbar!!! I got the pressure cooker today.”

Law enforcement officials said Capt. Ciccolo alerted counter-terrorism authorities about a year ago that his son, with whom he had had minimal contact for several years, “was going off the deep end” and “spouting extremist jihadist sympathies.”

ISIS Fighter Trained by the State Dept on U.S. Soil

The Obama Administration's eagerness to overthrow Assad in Syria created ISIS.  The vetting and the arming of the 'moderate' rebels in Syria via Benghazi was a disaster. ISIS was direclty and indirectly armed and trained by this administration.   The cover-up and the lies are on full display, yet the very liberal media has shown little interest in connecting the dots. Everything will be done to avoid embarrassing the Barack Obama Administration and former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, who just so happens to be the next Democratic candidate for President of the United States.  

ISIS fighter was trained by State Department

Washington (CNN) An ISIS fighter who calls for jihad in a new online video was trained in counterterrorism tactics on American soil, in a program run by the United States, officials tell CNN. 

The video features a former police commander from Tajikistan named Col. Gulmurod Khalimov. He appears in black ISIS garb with a sniper rifle and a bandolier of ammunition. He says in the video that he participated in programs on U.S. soil three times, at least one of which was in Louisiana.

The State Department has confirmed this claim. 

"From 2003-2014 Colonel Khalimov participated in five counterterrorism training courses in the United States and in Tajikistan, through the Department of State's Diplomatic Security/Anti-Terrorism Assistance program," said spokeswoman Pooja Jhunjhunwala. 

The program is intended to train candidates from participating countries in the latest counterterrorism tactics, so they can fight the very kind of militants that Khalimov has now joined. 

A State Department official said Khalimov was trained in crisis response, tactical management of special events, tactical leadership training and related issues. 

In the video, Khalimov says that what he saw during his training sessions turned him against his sponsors. 

"Listen, you American pigs: I've been to America three times. I saw how you train soldiers to kill Muslims," he says in Russian. "You taught your soldiers how to surround and attack, in order to exterminate Islam and Muslims." 

Then, in the most chilling part of the 10-minute video, he looks directly into the camera and says, "God willing, we will find your towns, we will come to your homes, and we will kill you."

What did he learn from the State Department's subcontractor Blackwater?

The American program in which Khalimov participated is designed to teach tactics used by police and military units against terrorists by countries that cooperate with the United States on security matters. But now experts are concerned that this defector has brought ISIS not only a propaganda victory, but also an insider's knowledge of the playbook the United States is using in the fight against ISIS. 

"That is a dangerous capability," said former Army intelligence officer Michael Breen. "It's never a good thing to have senior counterterrorism people become terrorists."

The DOD documents also contain the first official documentation that the Obama administration knew that weapons were being shipped from the Port of Benghazi to rebel troops in Syria. An October 2012 report confirms:  

Weapons from the former Libya military stockpiles were shipped from the port of Benghazi, Libya to the Port of Banias and the Port of Borj Islam, Syria. The weapons shipped during late-August 2012 were Sniper rifles, RPG’s, and 125 mm and 155mm howitzers missiles. 

During the immediate aftermath of, and following the uncertainty caused by, the downfall of the ((Qaddafi)) regime in October 2011 and up until early September of 2012, weapons from the former Libya military stockpiles located in Benghazi, Libya were shipped from the port of Benghazi, Libya to the ports of Banias and the Port of Borj Islam, Syria. The Syrian ports were chosen due to the small amount of cargo traffic transiting these two ports. The ships used to transport the weapons were medium-sized and able to hold 10 or less shipping containers of cargo. 

The DIA document further details: 

The weapons shipped from Syria during late-August 2012 were Sniper rifles, RPG’s and 125mm and 155mm howitzers missiles. The numbers for each weapon were estimated to be: 500 Sniper rifles, 100 RPG launchers with 300 total rounds, and approximately 400 howitzers missiles [200 ea – 125mm and 200ea – 155 mm.]

Operation to Retake Tikrit from ISIS Stalled by Heavy Casualties, Discord

ISTANBUL — The much ballyhooed Iraqi government operation to capture the central city of Tikrit from the Islamic State has stalled three weeks after it began, amid widespread reports that Shiite Muslim militias and the government are badly divided over tactics and roiled by claims that the militias have engaged in war crimes against the local Sunni Muslim population.

A two-day pause supposedly intended to give the Iraqi government time to bring up reinforcements has stretched into a week, as reports circulate that Iraqi government troops and the militias took heavier than anticipated casualties in their first efforts to dislodge Islamic State fighters. At least 1,000 militiamen died in the early days of fighting, according to some reports, roughly 5 percent of the 20,000 men the militias have committed to the operation.

Even during the pause, pro-government casualties remain high. A witness in the main government hospital at the nearby city of Samarra said that at least 100 dead or wounded fighters had been brought in over the last four days and that “bodies are everywhere” at the facility. The witness asked to remain anonymous for security reasons.

Difficulties with the Tikrit operation underscore how unlikely it is that the Iraqi military will be in any position soon to launch an assault to recapture Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city, which fell to the Islamic State last June. A U.S. military officer in February created a stir when he told reporters at the Pentagon that such an assault might come as soon as April. Sanaa, Yemen (CNN)The U.S. military is in the process of evacuating about 100 Special Operations forces members from the Al Anad airbase in Yemen due to that country's deteriorating security situation, sources in the region familiar with the situation told CNN.

Those being evacuated are the last American troops stationed in the Arab nation, which is home to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the terrorist group also known as AQAP. The United States closed its embassy in Sanaa last month, after Houthi rebels took over the Yemeni capital. 

For years, the U.S. military has worked closely with Yemen's government to go after AQAP, together carrying out numerous attacks like the 2011 drone strike that killed prominent al Qaeda figure Anwar al-Awlaki. And U.S. President Barack Obama has hailed this cooperation as a pillar in his anti-terrorism campaign. 

"Yemen has never been a perfect democracy or a island of stability," Obama said in January, promoting the policy of "partnering and intelligence-sharing with that local government" as the best approach in a bad situation.

U.S. Exaggerates Islamic State Casualties

The war against the Islamic State has killed thousands of fighters and even some mid-level battlefield commanders, but the organization's senior leadership and nerve center remain largely untouched, according to U.S. military and intelligence officials. 

These officials and other experts tracking the terror group tell us that the Islamic State's Shura and Sharia councils, the advisory bodies that help inform the major decisions of the group's leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, remain intact, notwithstanding one close call in November for Baghdadi. Although airstrikes and military campaigns have killed several regional administrators and designated “governors,” the Islamic State has quickly replaced them and maintains its command-and-control capabilities.

Al-Qaeda's HeirsThis assessment of progress against the Islamic State differs sharply from public statements by top Obama administration officials as recently as last month, including Secretary of State John Kerry and retired General John Allen, the president's special coordinator for the coalition against the Islamic State. In February, Allen said that half the group's leaders in Iraq had been killed.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference also in February, Kerry expanded that claim to account for the group’s leadership in Syria as well.
“We’ve disrupted their command structure, undermined its propaganda, taken out half of their senior leadership, squeezed its financing, damaged its supply networks, dispersed its personnel, and forced them to think twice before they move in an open convoy," Kerry said.

Kerry and Allen haven’t since repeated that claim about the group’s senior leadership. U.S. military officials tell us no consensus intelligence estimate supports the claim that half the Islamic State's leadership has been eliminated.
When asked about Kerry's 50 percent claim, Army Captain John J. Moore, a spokesman for U.S. Central Command, told us: "We currently don't have a percentage attached to that statistic."

Private donors from Gulf oil states helping to bankroll salaries of up to 100,000 Isis fighter

Islamic State is still receiving significant financial support from Arab sympathisers outside Iraq and Syria, enabling it to expand its war effort, says a senior Kurdish official.

The US has being trying to stop such private donors in the Gulf oil states sending to Islamic State (Isis) funds that help pay the salaries of fighters who may number well over 100,000.

Fuad Hussein, the chief of staff of the Kurdish President, Massoud Barzani, told The Independent on Sunday: “There is sympathy for Da’esh [the Arabic acronym for IS, also known as Isis] in many Arab countries and this has translated into money – and that is a disaster.” He pointed out that until recently financial aid was being given more or less openly by Gulf states to the opposition in Syria – but by now most of these rebel groups have been absorbed into IS and Jabhat al-Nusra, the al-Qaeda affiliate, so it is they “who now have the money and the weapons”.

Mr Hussein would not identify the states from which the funding for IS comes today, but implied that they were the same Gulf oil states that financed Sunni Arab rebels in Iraq and Syria in the past. 

Dr Mahmoud Othman, a veteran member of the Iraqi Kurdish leadership who recently retired from the Iraqi parliament, said there was a misunderstanding as to why Gulf countries paid off IS. It is not only that donors are supporters of IS, but that the movement “gets money from the Arab countries because they are afraid of it”, he says. “Gulf countries give money to Da’esh so that it promises not to carry out operations on their territory.”

The islamic State has an organized 'information and recruitment' campaign on many forms of socialmedia such as Twitter and Youtube to gather all possible support for their wars in Syria and Iraq.  The U.S. Government is seeking to counter the messaging.  Will the fervent supporters of ISIS or willing recruits even seek out this counter narrative from the U.S. Department of State on the internet ?










Twitter and Youtube are part of the new battle-space. Graphic images sell the new caliphate and soft-core versions are now used by the U.S. government to counter the campaign from ISIS.  The State Department tries ThinkAgainTurnAway.

It was a quote striking for its flippant tone even in January, as President Obama compared the terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant to a wannabe junior varsity basketball team.

“The analogy we use around here sometimes, and I think is accurate, is if a JV team puts on Lakers uniforms that doesn’t make them Kobe Bryant,” Obama told The New Yorker. “I think there is a distinction between the capacity and reach of a bin Laden and a network that is actively planning major terrorist plots against the homeland versus jihadists who are engaged in various local power struggles and disputes, often sectarian.”

ISIL, now in control of large portions of Iraq and Syria, has the full attention of the U.S. now.

Amidst its violent rampage through Iraq as it seeks to establish an Islamic caliphate, ISIL posted a video this week of a member beheading American journalist James Foley. Another terrorist declared ISIL’s goal to raise the group’s flag above the White House.
